If Monty Python did Euro-ceremonies…

People often ask me why I’m Euro-sceptic. Well, the following nicely illustrates a tiny part of that.

Yesterday was Europe Day, a day after what we in the UK used to call VE-Day… Firstly, in the following film, take note of the German Eagle, the militarism, the guns, the inability to properly raise the flag, the banana-republic formality, and the marching. Oh! The marching… Dear God… Oh, and don’t forget the “Luftwaffenmusikkorps” (no, I didn’t just make that up).

But d’y'know what? It isn’t funny; it’s bloody serious. Oh, and note Nigel Farage, right on form as usual. Hammer meets nail.

The broad appeal of AV…

Catical voting and AV

Apologies for the big gap in blogging. Been busy, away, and simply unable to spare the time.

To get us back on track, here’s a snippet from UKIP TV

I do broadly support UKIP, but I don’t support AV, which this film is promoting. Anyway, the analogy is fatally flawed, in that the cats, all being of the same “party”, mean that it is a 2-party election, which the film purports is the only type suitable for FPTP. That said, it is pretty amusing…

PanScourer’s 5-a-day: 9 April 2011

These two posts brilliantly, in their own ways, sum the idiocy of Socialism up. Well worth a read:

Lock, Stock and Barrel
Labour – Make Poverty Permanent.

Sadly, we in Ipswich, and especially in Scrubber’s ward, have no UKIP candidates to vote for on May 5th. However, elsewhere mischief is afoot:

Disgruntled Tories defecting to UKIP

I’ll introduce this one with a quotation from it:

“If it sounds like I’m overdoing it, consider this: the PCC’s ruling must be among the first by any quasi-official body anywhere in the world to take the side of a Climate Change sceptic rather than that of the Warmist establishment.”

This has interesting implications for bloggers everywhere. As James says: “especially those doughty souls around the world who are battling against Establishment lies, bullying and cover ups to try to reveal the truth about the corrupt, mendacious Climate Change industry”…

UEA: the sweet smell of napalm in the morning…

Here’s another example of why the EU is costing us too much as a nation, and, it’s fair to say, another example of the shocking extent to which this Government is Euro-philic. Have you ever heard of the “EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) which puts limits on industrial emissions and results in higher energy prices for consumers and manufacturing industry”? No, nor had I…

If the Government accept a bailout of Portugal, they will be betraying the interests of British taxpayers

On the subject of the inevitable Portugese bail-out, Daniel Hannan explains all this to the EU Parliament. I don’t know which is more shocking: the facts he is stating, or the fact that he is being widely, and rudely ignored by virtually the entire chamber. It’s probably the first time, I might add, that I’ve actually seen any number of people in it… WTF do these parasites actually do?

It may seem, having added a 6th of 5, that I can’t count. However, this is so good that I have to include it. Call it a Saturday bonus, maybe in celebration of the youngest Scrubber’s birthday today. Required reading for Socialists everywhere:

PanScourer’s 5-a-day: 8 April 2011

Dan Hannan’s take on this is just so spot on, it hurts. What a bloody mess, and how did we get dragged into this? Oh yes, incompetent and stupid politicians…

Now Ireland and Greece have to bail out Portugal. Britain must refuse to join this madness.

Richard North’s two articles here (read in order below) are also spot on. Oh dear… Love them or hate them, you have to admire the way France looks after itself whatever the “rules” actually say…

Fire Sale!

Ok, quiz time… What is the missing word, and when was the following written?

“The ****** government in Britain is imposing budget cuts in the Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) that will result in hundreds of job losses and compromise public safety.

The Audit Commission, the unelected body used by the central government to impose market-based discipline on public spending, claims that £200 million of savings can be made through efficiency improvements at local level without endangering the public. But there were already £200 million worth of cuts made between 2004 and 2008. Further cuts, therefore, must mean major job losses for firefighters.”

The date is key in the following (agreed last July):
